About

Elliot Thursday is an American artist whose work draws from his experiences as a trans and queer man. Thursday combines various media and techniques to create maximalist celebrations of the aliveness and importance of trans people in the face of an oppressive status quo. Thursday explores the boundaries and overlap between painting, sculpture, installation, and performance, weaving these various disciplines together to create unrestrained extensions of his own body that coalesce into anti-assimilationist queer worlds.
Thursday has received numerous grants, including most recently the MRAC Arts Impact for Individuals grant and the MSAB Creative Individuals grant. He has shown work nationally and globally in both solo and group exhibitions. Thursday is the founder and artist for The Queer Portrait Project, a collaboration with the queer community elevating queer voices and stories.
Thursday holds an MFA from IU Bloomington and a BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art.
When not creating art, Thursday teaches workshops, builds cat furniture, and spends time with his husband and their two cats.
